We’ve reached the money portion of the Yankees’ and Mets’ offseasons
12+ min ago (178+ words) New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner and New York Mets president David Stearns each took to Zoom at the same time to defend their actions " past, present and future " on what would normally be a slow day on the MLB offseason calendar. It's the middle of an admittedly awful football season here in New York, the Knicks and Rangers are just digging into their schedules and yet, on Monday, it was the Yankees and Mets making headlines. Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner and Mets president David Stearns each took to Zoom at the same time to defend their actions " past, present and future " on what would normally be a slow day on the MLB offseason calendar. And once again, they both addressed a familiar topic: money. The Yankees, coming off a 94-win season that ended with a loss to the Blue…...
GOP Sen. Jim Justice agrees to pay $5M in back taxes to settle DOJ, IRS claim
22+ min ago (286+ words) That's a lot of kibble. Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV), whose pet English bulldog Babydog has been a DC darling since he took office in January, has agreed to pay more than $5 million to settle a tax debt dating to 2009. The Justice Department filed a complaint in Beckley, WV, federal court Monday claiming that Justice and his wife Cathy owed $5,164,739.75 in "federal income taxes, penalties, and interest" as of Aug. 4. The complaint claimed that the Justices had "have neglected or refused to make full payment," despite being given notice by the Treasury Department. Later Monday, the DOJ and the Justices filed a joint motion agreeing to pay the outstanding amount. Justice, who served as West Virginia governor from 2017 until his election to the Senate last year, inherited a coal mining and agriculture business from his father and at one point was…...
Anti-Israel protests at Park East Synagogue: Letters to the Editor — Nov. 25, 2025
31+ min ago (528+ words) Zohran Mamdani says people should be free to enter a house of worship without intimidation " but these sacred spaces should not be used to "promote activities in violation of international law" ("Synagogue hate rally," Nov. 21). There is nothing illegal about Nefesh B'Nefesh, the group that was meeting inside the synagogue. It assists immigration to Israel. It is a recognized nonprofit organization. It seems that, since Mamdani thinks Israel is illegitimate as a Jewish state, he therefore also believes furthering Jewish immigration is an illegal activity. His distain of Israel and Jews is open and obvious. The violent attack on the Park East Synagogue was just a prelude to what's to come when the openly antisemitic, anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian and pro-BDS Mamdani and his Democratic Party, led by far-left radicals, takes office. Mamdani doesn't seem to understand the central story of the…...

Taylor Swift was right about eras — our brains undergo major ‘turning points’ at these 4 ages
1+ hour, 52+ min ago (580+ words) Turns out that we've all got a little Taylor Swift in us. Our brains host their own Eras Tour " just without the elaborate costume changes. New research suggests that our brains experience major changes that result in five broad eras over the average human lifespan. And just like the Eras Tour, you can mark your calendar for when these "turning points" happen at four particular ages. Neuroscientists at the University of Cambridge in the UK found that the human brain rewires itself to support different ways of thinking as we grow and mature. We enter these "major epochs" of brain structure around 9, 32, 66 and 83 years old. What's more, our brains aren't fully considered adult-ed until our early 30s. "This study is the first to identify major phases of brain wiring across a human lifespan," Alexa Mousley, a Gates Cambridge Scholar who led…...
